Polarizer Filter

Last summer I purchased a linear polarizer for my 'Yashica-109MP' single reflex camera.

The best way to know when to use a filter is to take photographs with and without and compare the results. Here are some examples of  the usage of linear polarizer. The left pictures were taken with polarizer, the right pictures - without one.

Results:

boat with PL (28843 bytes) boat without PL (31369 bytes)

1). The polarizing filter makes the colors more saturated .

water with PL (37996 bytes) water without PL (37927 bytes)

2) You can use a polarizer to remove reflections from the water.

ATTENTION! The polarizing filter 'kills' a rainbow on the landscape pictures.

house with PL (34080 bytes) house without PL (39522 bytes)

3) The filter also absorbs blue skylight and can reduce haz. It's possible to make a blue sky almost black. This effect is most pronounced at a 90 degree angle to the sun.
